Socceroos Star Mohamed Toure Nets Hat-Trick on Norwich Debut Ahead of World Cup

Published on

Socceroos striker Mohamed Toure delivers a stunning performance, scoring a hat-trick in Norwich’s 3-0 victory over Oxford United. The 21-year-old Australian forward starts brightly at The Kassam Stadium, netting his first goal with just 51 seconds on the clock, followed by strikes in the 19th and 47th minutes.

Historic Achievement

Toure marks history as the first player since Jesse Lingard in 2013 for Birmingham City to score a hat-trick on a starting debut across England’s top four divisions. The win lifts Norwich to 16th in the Championship standings, seven points above the relegation zone. Toure, who joined from Danish club Randers for $6 million, now boasts four goals in two Championship appearances after also scoring as a substitute against Blackburn Rovers.

Manager’s Praise

Norwich manager Philippe Clement highlights Toure’s rapid adaptation. “It was what we wanted to see from Mohamed, but also from everyone around him,” Clement states. “We’ve seen the last two months that everyone who plays as a striker gets much better opportunities than three months ago. The strikers can be in good positions to finish off the job, and that’s what he did really well.”

Clement adds, “Mo is still a young lad with a lot of potential and several things to improve, but he is learning fast.” The coach reveals showing Toure footage of Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku to refine his space creation and physical play. “It’s important to have a striker who can find the spaces in behind and is lethal in front of goal.”

Background and Rise

Born to Liberian parents in a Guinean refugee camp, Toure’s family endured 14 years there before relocating to Australia in 2004. He debuted for Adelaide United at 15, becoming the A-League’s third-youngest debutant and youngest goalscorer. Toure honed his skills with Croydon Kings and the South Australian NTC program, alongside brothers Al Hassan (now at Sydney FC) and Musa.

With two goals in eight international caps, Toure secures a spot in Socceroos coach Tony Popovic’s squad for the June World Cup. Fans celebrate his impact, with one Instagram commenter noting, “He was exceptional. Goals aside, his hold up play and bringing other players into it was top shelf.” Another calls him “an exciting young player to watch,” while a third urges, “Bring on the World Cup.”

Toure now prioritizes keeping Norwich in the Championship while building momentum for the global stage.
