MSG Warns of Lifetime Bans After Multiple Event Brawls

Published on

Madison Square Garden has issued a stern warning that anyone involved in fights at the venue faces a lifetime ban following several altercations during a recent boxing weigh-in event.

Recent Incidents at the Arena

Footage captured two separate brawls erupting on Friday ahead of Saturday’s boxing card, headlined by the title fight between Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson. One altercation broke out near the stage as Bill Haney, father of boxer Devin Haney, conducted an interview.

The press conference for the Lopez-Stevenson matchup on Thursday grew tense, with the fighters exchanging heated insults about each other’s families and audience members shouting from the crowd. Additionally, an incident occurred near the cage during UFC 322 on November 15.

Official Response from Madison Square Garden

In a statement, Madison Square Garden emphasized zero tolerance for violence. “Violence will not be condoned at MSG across any type of event including hockey, basketball, boxing, concerts, or special events,” the arena declared. “If any individual is found to participate in violent activity, whether you are part of the event or a patron, you will be banned for life and unable to attend or participate in any event across all our venues.”

Upcoming Events Amid Heightened Security

The warning arrives ahead of a packed weekend at the arena. Organizers confirm the boxing event is sold out, while Sunday features a nationally televised matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, which could mark LeBron James’s final game at the venue.
