Korda Clinches US Women’s Open Title in Thrilling Finish

American golfer Nelly Korda has finally secured her maiden US Women’s Open title, triumphing by a single stroke in a dramatic final round at Riviera Country Club. This victory marks Korda’s second major championship of the year, overcoming past challenges at this prestigious event.

Hull Falls Short Again in Major Championship Bid

The US Women’s Open concluded with disappointment for English golfer Charley Hull, who once again fell short of her first major championship win. Hull, a popular figure on the LPGA Tour, has been consistently close, with this latest result extending her wait for a major title.

A Close Contest at Riviera

Hull mounted a strong challenge throughout the tournament. She posted a third-round score of 65, followed by a final-round 67, keeping the pressure on Korda. However, Korda’s steady play culminated in a crucial par putt on the final hole, securing her the championship.

Hull Reflects on Runner-Up Finish

Speaking after the event, Hull expressed her frustration with the outcome. “It’s just frustrating. Another second place. I think that’s five second place finishes I’ve had in majors now,” she stated. “So, yeah, it’s pretty annoying, but I played really well the last day. Obviously missed a couple putts on the back nine, but it was quite windy and I hit the ball fantastic so fair play to Nelly Korda for back-to-back wins.”

Hull also shared her unique motivation for major championships. “But I just love playing in the majors. Like I pretty much only get up for the majors, it’s really weird. I just love playing in majors, like, if it’s a normal week-to-week I struggle sometimes getting the motivation. But when it comes to major weeks, I just love it. If I just even make the cut I feel like at the weekend I can make a massive charge.” She added, “But, no, I loved it out there. It was so much fun. The crowds were great and it was nice to see so many young kids around.”

Looking Ahead to Future Opportunities

Hull has consistently performed well in recent majors, finishing in the top-10 in her last three appearances. While she has yet to secure a major, she has found success on the Ladies European Tour, winning the PIF Saudi Ladies International in February. Her next opportunity to contend for a major will be at the Women’s PGA Championship, scheduled for the final weekend in June at Hazeltine in Minnesota. Hull’s current standing places her tied for tenth at the Chevron Championship, held at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston.
