Netflix has approved a new spin-off from The Crown, covering key royal events from Queen Victoria’s death in 1901 to Princess Elizabeth’s wedding in 1947. Negotiations with the production company Left Bank Pictures have concluded successfully after extended discussions.
A source close to the project confirms that creator Peter Morgan, who led the original series to 24 Emmy wins, plans to return. Morgan has already begun scripting, with casting slated for next year. This earlier timeline may avoid past controversies over historical accuracy.
Morgan previously explained his approach: “I sort of have in my head a 20-year rule. That is enough time and enough distance to really understand something, to understand its role, to understand its position, to understand its relevance.” He added: “Often, things that appear absolutely wildly important today are instantly forgotten, and other things have a habit of sticking around and proving to be historically very relevant and long-lasting.”
