MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 after discovering suspected cocaine valued at approximately P43.42 million hidden in her luggage.

Details of the Arrest

The incident occurred on Thursday night when the woman, identified only by the alias “Vane,” arrived from Sao Paulo, Brazil, via a connecting flight from Doha, Qatar. Customs officials conducted routine screening and detected suspicious items in her baggage using X-ray equipment.

Upon further inspection, officers uncovered about 8.197 kilograms of the suspected drug. Field tests confirmed the substance as cocaine, leading to her immediate detention.

Legal Consequences

The suspect faces charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Her specific employment background has not been disclosed at this time. Officials emphasized the ongoing efforts to secure borders against drug trafficking at major entry points like NAIA.
