Paddy Pimblett’s Stunning Submission Victory Over Benoit Saint Denis

Published on

Paddy Pimblett delivered a show-stopping performance, submitting Benoit Saint Denis with a rear-naked choke in under a minute at a recent UFC event. The victory not only marked a significant comeback for Pimblett following his January defeat but also potentially propelled him into contention for a lightweight title shot.

Pimblett’s Dominant Return

Looking to rebound from his loss to Justin Gaethje, Pimblett, often known as ‘The Baddy’, entered the octagon with the energy of the American crowd fueling his performance. His opponent, Benoit Saint Denis, had been on an impressive streak of early finishes since overcoming consecutive defeats in 2024. Saint Denis, nicknamed ‘The God of War’, opted for an aggressive approach early in the bout, attempting to close the distance and land strikes. However, a miscalculated leg kick attempt left him vulnerable.

Pimblett capitalized swiftly, securing a deep chokehold. The Liverpool native’s submission prowess was on full display as he locked in the rear-naked choke. Saint Denis, unable to escape or defend effectively, lost consciousness, prompting the referee to stop the fight, awarding Pimblett a decisive victory.

Title Implications and Future Prospects

The win over Saint Denis, who was reportedly considered a potential title contender with a victory, significantly alters the landscape of the lightweight division. Pimblett, by defeating a highly-touted opponent so convincingly, has made a strong case for his own title aspirations and possibly a rematch with Justin Gaethje.

Following his victory, Pimblett addressed the crowd and UFC commentator Joe Rogan, expressing his confidence and outlining his future ambitions. “Sub of the year! I knew he was out. I had to say to the ref ‘he’s not conscious’ and he had to check him,” Pimblett stated. “I told everyone this week, try to grab my legs and I will choke him unconscious. I’m like a spider. When I’ve got hold of you, you don’t get out and it’s as simple as that.”

Addressing his previous loss, he added, “Everyone counted me out. Everyone said I was finished because I lost to Gaethje but what now? Am I finished?” Pimblett then issued a broad challenge to the division’s top fighters, naming several potential opponents. “Who wants it next? I’ll beat Ilia [Topuria] up, I’ll rematch Justin [Gaethje], I’ll fight Conor [McGregor] or Max [Holloway] next. Give me everyone and I’ll punch their head in.”

Other Notable Results on the Card

The event also featured other significant bouts:

  • In a flyweight contest, British fighter Lone’er Kavanagh saw his title aspirations diminished after being submitted by Brandon Royval. After a back-and-forth fight, Royval secured a rear-naked choke in the third round, forcing Kavanagh to tap.
  • Pimblett’s teammate, Luken Riley, continued his undefeated streak, moving to 14-0 with a first-round knockout of Kai Kamaka III. A powerful right hand dropped Kamaka, and subsequent strikes led to the referee’s stoppage.
  • The main card opener saw King Green secure a dramatic first-round stoppage against Terrance McKinney. Despite McKinney dominating much of the round, Green landed a fight-ending blow just before the buzzer.

Pimblett’s emphatic submission win over Saint Denis has undoubtedly placed him back in the spotlight, setting the stage for potentially high-profile matchups in the coming year.
