Viewers in the US caught the new crime thriller Memory of a Killer on Fox earlier this month, and now all episodes stream on Prime Video worldwide. Patrick Dempsey portrays Angelo, a hitman maintaining a double life as a copier salesman to shield his family. He has kept these worlds separate for years, but Alzheimer’s disease now threatens his secrecy—his brother already succumbed to memory loss.
The Plot Thickens with Timely Themes
The central mystery grows increasingly complex and unpredictable. The series also highlights that Alzheimer’s affects people beyond the elderly, adding depth to its narrative.
Fan Theories on a Potential Crossover
Yet, fans fixate less on the plot and more on speculation. Trailer comments buzz with ideas of Angelo seeking medical care from a familiar face—Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) from Grey’s Anatomy. The medical connection fuels crossover rumors.
Dempsey shuts down these hopes firmly. “She’s still in Seattle… I don’t think there’s any chance,” he states regarding the fan theories.
Dempsey’s Enduring Love for Grey’s Anatomy
“I think people really still love that show, and people really rooted for that relationship. They invested so much in it, and I think it’s still very much alive, and it’s constantly being rediscovered, which is a beautiful thing, and I’m grateful for that,” Dempsey adds.
He praises the show’s impact: “I say this a lot, and I hope people don’t get tired of it, but I think the best thing that’s come out of Grey’s is that people have gone into the medical profession. Because it’s been on for 92 years now, they’ve gone through medical school, and they are out actually practicing medicine. And in that, I think is a tremendous win.”
Exploring New Acting Challenges
Two decades after joining the ABC hit, Dempsey’s affection endures. Still, stepping away from Dr. Derek Shepherd opens fresh opportunities.
“I’ve always been fortunate to be an actor and to be able to pay the bills and to do it. But I started off with romantic comedies. We’re playing romantic characters in Grey’s, and people really never really saw me in this way, and that can be a bit frustrating,” he explains about embodying Angelo.
“I have elements of all those things, but there’s also other darker sides and other parts of my personality and other things that I would like to try as an actor, to stretch into and to challenge myself and to feel uncomfortable. I think my racing career has really taught me about being uncomfortable. And I think as an actor, when you have a role or you read something and it makes you feel that way, that’s something you should go and do.”
The role showcases Dempsey’s range, hinting at strong potential for a second season of Memory of a Killer.
