Prince Andrew Loses Access to Royal Pool Amid Heatwave

Published on

As record-breaking temperatures grip central and southern England, many are seeking relief from the heat. While most resort to fans and paddling pools, some in privileged circles have access to luxurious outdoor swimming facilities. It appears Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may be regretting the loss of his own impressive outdoor pool, a feature he can no longer access following his relinquishment of the keys to Royal Lodge in February.

Royal Lodge’s Historic Swimming Feature

The swimming pool at Royal Lodge, the Windsor residence formerly shared by Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, is a lesser-known amenity of the property. While recent photographs of the pool are scarce, a historical black-and-white image from 1942 offers a glimpse of its past. The photograph depicts King George VI, Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II), and Princess Margaret drawing water from the outdoor feature.

If properly maintained, the pool would have provided a welcome respite for Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The property also boasts other unique amenities, including a personalized tree swing for Princess Eugenie and a fully functional, historic Wendy house that was originally gifted to Queen Elizabeth II during her childhood.

Other Royal Swimming Pools

It is worth noting that Buckingham Palace, King Charles’ official residence, also houses a secret indoor swimming pool. This facility was commissioned by King George VI in 1938, with the intention of providing a private space for his daughters, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, to have swimming lessons.

Today, the Buckingham Palace pool is utilized by senior royals, including Prince William and Kate. Members of the Staff Sports Club can also use the pool, provided it does not conflict with royal schedules. During his childhood, King Charles (then Prince Charles) used the pool not only for swimming but also for sailing model boats and reportedly hosted school friends there.

Prince Andrew’s Current Residence

Following his departure from Royal Lodge, Prince Andrew relocated to King Charles’ Sandringham Estate. He initially resided at Wood Farm while his permanent home, Marsh Farm, underwent renovation. Marsh Farm is a five-bedroom converted farmhouse equipped with modern features, including a new kitchen and stables for Prince Andrew’s horses.

In addition to past accusations of misconduct, Prince Andrew also experienced a concerning incident on his new estate when he was confronted by an individual wielding a weapon.
