Rashford’s Barcelona Dream: Deco Praises Pay Cut Dedication

Published on

Marcus Rashford has thrived at Barcelona after facing intense pressure at Manchester United, according to the club’s sporting director Deco. The 28-year-old England international secured a loan move to Catalonia following a fallout with manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. He previously spent the end of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where the club showed strong interest in retaining him permanently.

Deco’s High Praise for Rashford’s Commitment

Deco highlighted Rashford’s determination to join Barcelona despite other options. Speaking on the player’s adaptation, he stated: “Yes, definitely. I think it wasn’t easy to come here. He has played at a very high level, with enormous demands at a club like Manchester United. Then he spent six months at Aston Villa, where he did a very good job. In fact, Aston Villa would have kept him if it had been possible.”

Deco added: “I know this because I’ve spoken to people there. But he only wanted to come to Barca, and that’s a very positive thing. We were able to secure a loan. The fact that he took a pay cut to make it happen is a clear demonstration that he really wanted to come, and we’re very happy about that. He’s a player who contributes a lot to the team.”

Key Transfer Details and Wage Sacrifice

Rashford accepted a significant pay reduction from his previous £300,000-per-week salary at United to £225,000 weekly, enabling the loan amid Barcelona’s financial constraints. This move underscores his eagerness for the Catalan switch, as confirmed by club officials.

Impressive Form and Recent Setback

Rashford has impressed at the Camp Nou, scoring 10 goals and delivering 13 assists in 34 appearances. However, he will miss the Copa del Rey clash against Atletico Madrid due to injury, as announced by Barcelona.

Permanent Deal on the Horizon?

Rashford seeks to convert his loan into a permanent transfer at season’s end. The deal includes a £26 million buy option, though Barcelona has inquired about a lower fee from Manchester United to finalize the move.
