The family’s getaway included thrilling activities, with Stewart’s children enthusiastically plunging into the ocean from the top deck of the superyacht. Lancaster also took time to soak up the sun, relaxing on the sundeck and topping up her tan. Stewart’s band leader and bass player, Carmine Appice, intentionally withheld Lancaster’s phone number from him for several months.
Stewart recounted that Appice believed he wasn’t in the right emotional state to pursue a new relationship following his divorce from his second wife, Rachel Hunter. “He didn’t think I was in the right position because I had just got a divorce and didn’t know if I was coming or going, and he said I will give it to you when I think you are ready,” Stewart explained, adding with a laugh, “I should have fired him, but I couldn’t!”
Lancaster recalled the period of waiting, admitting she thought she might never hear from Stewart again. “Carmine had kept that telephone number away from him,” she said, becoming emotional. “He said ‘you are going to go a bit crazy over the summer and let your hair down, and Penny seems like a nice girl.'” She remembered processing photos from one of his concerts, viewing it as a fond memory, unaware of the future that awaited her.
It wasn’t until nine months after they initially exchanged contact details that Stewart finally reached out.
