Rosehill Race Day: Expert Picks and Previews for Saturday’s Card

Published on

Saturday’s racing at Rosehill presents a full card of competitive events, with handicaps and stakes races offering punters a variety of betting opportunities. Experts have provided detailed race-by-race previews and selections, focusing on form, track conditions, and individual horse capabilities to identify potential winners and value bets across the ten races.

Race 1: TAB Highway Handicap (1400m)

The opening TAB Highway Handicap at 1400m features a strong field, with Wayburn highlighted as a leading contender. Despite encountering significant traffic issues in his last start, where he was unlucky not to feature more prominently, Wayburn is expected to appreciate the step up to 1400m. His dominant win over this course and distance two starts prior solidifies his credentials. Should he encounter clear running, he is tipped to be very competitive. Other notable chances include Street Force, who impressed with a decisive win at Scone and carries a light weight despite stepping up in grade. Brutal Miss showed a strong finishing surge to win her last start and brings respected stable form, while Xtreme, a consistent performer in Highway Handicaps, warrants inclusion after finding himself too far back in his most recent outing.

Tip: Wayburn to win.

Race 2: Midway Handicap (1200m)

In the Midway Handicap over 1200m, Heroic Deed is a promising galloper who made a successful step up to midweek company with a recent win at Warwick Farm. His quick acceleration in that race suggests he can measure up again in this grade, particularly with a favourable draw. Annie’s Rose returns to this class after competitive runs in Benchmark 78 company, including a win over 1100m at Rosehill. Her ability to finish strongly makes her a significant threat from an inside gate. Better Late demonstrated an all-the-way win at Newcastle and is expected to be prominent from his draw, while Call Me Sassy is considered an each-way chance following a solid third-place finish in a recent Midway Handicap.

Tip: Heroic Deed to win.

Race 3: Chandon Handicap (2400m)

The Chandon Handicap over the staying trip of 2400m sees Appeared as the firm favourite following two commanding victories since arriving in Australia. While he can be prone to flat spots, the addition of winkers may help maintain his focus. Given the perceived lack of depth in the race and his suitability to the distance, he is the one to beat. Kenmare Bay continues to show a strong finishing effort in his races, including behind the smart Aethelwulf, and is racing well enough to be a chance despite a preference for wetter tracks. Unbelievable, resuming from a spell, may need further improvement but could be competitive for a placing. Golden Century, while yet to win recently, has placed over this distance and holds place claims.

Tip: Appeared to win.

Race 4: Precise Air Handicap (1800m)

The Precise Air Handicap at 1800m appears to be a suitable target for Anthracite, who boasts strong recent form. He has performed well in races behind notable performers and then led the field over 2000m, finishing strongly. His prominent racing style makes him a difficult proposition to overcome in what is considered a race lacking significant depth. Star Vega showed promise on his return in the Rowley Mile, making a long run from the back, and is expected to improve with the outing. Mukhtalif, despite a modest first-up run, warrants respect given the stable switch and the potentially weaker opposition. Savisanta, a former Derby contender, is expected to improve significantly over the longer distance compared to his resuming run at 1400m.

Tip: Anthracite to win.

Race 5: Bisley Workwear Handicap (1500m)

In the Bisley Workwear Handicap over 1500m, Beside The Ocean is poised for a strong performance, particularly if the race is run at a genuine tempo. She closed strongly for fourth over this course and distance recently and, with a bit of luck from her likely position back in the field, could be tough to hold out. Puntin is a noted front-runner who has been consistent and should again be in the mix. Scripted, despite being a well-backed favourite last start, finished third and may benefit from that run. Transcend, a winner last start, races near the speed and, despite some quirks, is in good form and cannot be disregarded.

Tip: Beside The Ocean each-way.

Race 6: Myplates Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m)

The Myplates Ming Dynasty Quality over 1400m features several promising three-year-olds. Genesis Runner put in a strong run for second in the Up And Coming Stakes and is expected to appreciate the extra 100m, with an ideal draw to secure a favourable position. He is considered a major contender. Savagram, who raced prominently alongside Genesis Runner in the same event, stuck on well and should not be underestimated, especially if he can dictate terms from the front. Tenenbaum was impressive winning first-up carrying a significant weight and has shown considerable promise previously, suggesting he can be a force in this event. Stormy Marco, a winner at Hawkesbury, also achieved a Group 1 placing in Brisbane, indicating his class.

Tip: Genesis Runner to win.

Race 7: Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes (1200m)

The Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes, a Group 2 event over 1200m, has Weeping Woman as a strong favourite for her return. She was dominant in Group 3 company last preparation and, with multiple trials under her belt, is expected to be ready for a big fresh run. Her light weight and positive racing style are significant advantages. Apocalyptic ran well first-up in the Toy Show Stakes, closing strongly despite being too far back, and with an inside gate and the step up to 1200m, she is a serious contender. Savvy Hallie, who disappointed last start, is capable of bouncing back and has previously beaten Apocalyptic over this distance. Lazzura, a winner of the Coolmore Classic, might find 1200m slightly short but her quality and tactical advantage from the draw make her a threat.

Tip: Weeping Woman to win.

Race 8: Yulong Run To The Rose (1200m)

In the Yulong Run To The Rose over 1200m, Under Focus made a striking impression first-up in the Rosebud, powering home from the rear despite a wide draw. With a better gate this time and the benefit of that run, he is expected to be a significant factor in the finish. St Gotthard is a highly regarded colt with two wins from two starts, including an impressive victory at the Gold Coast. While the depth of his previous form is a question, he is trialling well and appears set for this step up. Warwoven ran on well into fifth in the San Domenico Stakes and may benefit from the step up to 1200m. Cormier showed promise in his initial preparation and, on a dry track, could be hitting the line strongly.

Tip: Under Focus each-way.

Race 9: Toyota Forklifts Theo Marks Stakes (1300m)

The Toyota Forklifts Theo Marks Stakes over 1300m sees Skyhook facing a wide barrier but is expected to be ridden positively given the likely lack of early speed. He was most effective ridden this way during the winter and, if he can secure a reasonable position in the run, he is considered the most promising horse in the race and a strong contender. Verona Rose is a noted first-up performer and could represent good each-way value, having won second-up last preparation. Midnight In Tokyo is in form after winning the Show County and, if she can obtain easy sectionals in front, she will be difficult to run down. Lord Of Biscay usually performs well fresh and, with a weight advantage, could be a chance.

Tip: Skyhook to win.

Race 10: Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1200m)

The final race, the Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap over 1200m, features Ruination as a strong chance. He performed admirably first-up, leading and kicking strongly to hold off rivals, with a significant gap to third place indicating a strong performance. His previous form, including a second in the Dulcify, combined with a good draw and a weight drop, makes him highly competitive. Karinska could be a danger if the pace is too hot upfront; her late work first-up was encouraging, and the extra distance is a plus. Rivellino, who faced strong opposition in the autumn, is expected to improve from his first-up run. Eagle Express, despite a weight rise, has the advantage of an inside gate and could be in the finish if she maintains her recent form.

Tip: Ruination to win.
