Scott Mills Sacked from BBC Radio 2 Over Personal Conduct Claims

Published on

Scott Mills, the 53-year-old presenter, has left BBC Radio 2 following allegations related to his personal conduct. He joined the BBC in 1998, hosting Radio 1’s early breakfast show before transitioning to Radio 2 after 24 years to handle the afternoon slot. In November 2024, he took over the Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball.

A BBC spokesperson stated, “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC.”

Final Show and Departure Details

Mills hosted his last breakfast show on March 24, signing off with, “See you tomorrow.” He did not return the following day. Reports indicate he learned of his contract termination over the weekend. BBC News culture reporter Noor Nanji noted on Radio 2, “Scott Mills was taken off air last Tuesday and was told of the decision that he’d been sacked at the weekend.”

Career Highlights and Salary

Mills began at the BBC in 1998 on Radio 1’s early breakfast until 2004, later moving to weekends and covering for Sara Cox. For 2024-2025, he earned between £355,000 and £359,999 annually, ranking third among Radio 2 presenters behind Zoe Ball and Vernon Kay.

Temporary Replacements

Gary Davies and OJ Borg cover the breakfast show until April 7. Davies has presented on Radio 1 and Radio 2 since 1982, while Borg hosts Radio 2’s midnight to 3 a.m. slot.

Staff Notification

Director of Music Lorna Clarke informed Radio 2 staff via internal note: “I wanted to personally let you know that Scott Mills has left the Breakfast show, and the BBC. I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock. Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV. I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.” She promised updates on show plans soon.

Impact on Upcoming Projects

The departure occurs just over a month before Eurovision 2026, which Mills typically covers for Radio 2 alongside Rylan Clark, joined last year by Richie Anderson and Sara Cox. Replacement plans remain unclear.

Mills was slated to host the companion podcast Race Across the World: The Detour starting April 2, featuring guests discussing destinations and adventures. He also planned Pop Top 10 with Rylan from April 29 on Radio 2. Both projects’ futures are uncertain.

This news coincides with Tim Davie’s final week as BBC Director-General.
