Music mogul Simon Cowell, 66, boasts an estimated net worth of £450 million from hits like The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, One Direction, and Little Mix. He recently shared stories of his extravagant past spending habits.
Wild Spending Confessions
Cowell detailed his carefree cash splurges during the launch of Jamie East’s podcast Tales from the Celebrity Trenches. East recalled Cowell’s £2,000 hotel check-in at London’s Mandarin Oriental just for a bath after his boiler failed.
Laughing, Cowell admitted, “I might have done that. I pissed away so much money in hindsight. I do think about that now, like ‘my god.’ I’m a bit more cautious, but I didn’t have much money at the start. When I began earning big, it felt fantastic. Now I wonder why I spent it all.”
The Infamous 50th Birthday Party
East teased about Cowell’s £3 million 50th birthday bash featuring burlesque vaginas. Looking sheepish, Cowell confirmed, “Absolutely correct. I didn’t know it would cost that much—I really didn’t. When I got the bill, I think I’m still paying for it. I couldn’t believe it. I said, ‘What? I didn’t agree to that.'”
He barely remembers the event after taking half a Xanax but recalls his mother sitting next to a vicar, horrified by the dancing vaginas. “She asked, ‘What’s that?’ I replied, ‘I think it’s a mouth… the wrong way around.'”
Despite his fortune, Cowell confesses ongoing money worries: “I still worry about money because I know what it feels like to have absolutely nothing.”
