Spencer Pratt, the 42-year-old reality TV star turned political candidate, draws inspiration from pop star Charli XCX’s ‘Brat summer’ slogan in his latest campaign video for Los Angeles mayor. The one-minute AI-generated commercial, created by filmmaker Charles Curran, envisions a revitalized LA free from homelessness, wildfires, and crime.
Campaign Ad Highlights City Transformations
The ad features residents sharing optimistic, sarcastic takes on improved conditions. A firefighter notes it’s easier to battle fires with water in the reservoir. A police officer remarks, ‘We’re even allowed to arrest criminals now, with handcuffs.’ A young woman walking her dog, dressed in a braless midriff-baring outfit, says she no longer fears stepping in human feces.
Other scenes show a child at a playground declaring, ‘I love going to the park now that it’s not an open-air drug market.’ A jogger adds, ‘I only see needles in the hospital now.’ The video culminates with Pratt energizing a crowd on stage, asking, ‘Who’s having a Pratt summer?’
The green-themed aesthetic echoes Charli XCX’s 2024 album Brat, which featured a slime-green cover and became a cultural phenomenon.
Recent Debate Boosts Pratt’s Momentum
The ad follows Pratt’s strong performance in a debate against Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilmember Nithya Raman. An NBC viewer poll declared Pratt the winner with 79% support, enhancing his prospects ahead of the June 2 election.
Pratt targeted Raman, calling her a ‘random city council member’ in a viral moment. When Raman accused him and Bass of colluding to eliminate her, Pratt retorted amid audience laughter: ‘Mayor Bass and I are definitely not working together. I blame this person for burning my house down.’
Wildfires Fuel Pratt’s Political Drive
Pratt’s Pacific Palisades home, shared with wife Heidi Montag and their two sons, was destroyed in the January 2025 LA wildfires. The incident spurred his entry into politics.
Earlier this year, at the ‘They Let Us Burn!’ protest in the Palisades, Pratt announced his candidacy. He stated, ‘The system in Los Angeles isn’t struggling, it’s fundamentally broken. It is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and the friends they exchange favors with while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash.’
‘Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m done waiting for someone to take real action,’ he continued. ‘That’s why I am running for mayor. And let me be clear, this just isn’t a campaign, this is a mission, and we’re gonna expose the system.’
Pratt emphasized accountability: ‘They intentionally let us burn before, during and after. There was no accountability. It was gross negligence. They let this happen. It wasn’t a natural disaster or something that was unavoidable. It was their fault, and we need the accountability we deserve.’
The ad includes Curran’s post: ‘LA doesn’t have to be like this. Vote Spencer Pratt.’
