Stacey Solomon Defends Fashion Choices Against Ageist Trolls

Published on

Stacey Solomon has issued a strong rebuttal to online criticism suggesting she is attempting to dress younger than her age. The television personality, aged 36, took to Instagram to voice her frustration after a commenter accused her of “trying to be 20 years old” in response to a recent video showcasing her new outfits. Solomon used her Instagram Stories to share her unfiltered thoughts, questioning the societal notion that women should alter their fashion choices based on age.

Challenging Age-Appropriate Fashion Norms

Solomon expressed disbelief at the comment, questioning the validity of the concept of “age-appropriate” clothing. “I… you know when you read something and you just think my God,” she began her video response. “I’m sorry but… says who? Like what is age appropriate? Anything over children’s sizes, there is no age limit.”

The presenter, known for her role on shows like ‘Sort Your Life Out’, highlighted the arbitrary nature of fashion restrictions tied to age. She elaborated on the absurdity of clothing items having an unspoken expiry date. “When I pick up a top it doesn’t say, ‘Oh, thirty-five and under, you can’t have this one.’ What do you mean??” she questioned. Solomon explained that she was simply enjoying feeling good in her new clothes, without considering whether they were suitable for her age. “I was just minding my own business feeling really pretty in all the dresses that I picked up for myself. I wasn’t thinking, ‘Am I too old or too young to wear these clothes?’”

A Message of Empowerment and Self-Confidence

Expanding her message beyond her personal experience, Solomon encouraged her followers to embrace their style choices and disregard unsolicited opinions. She urged them to purchase anything that catches their eye and makes them feel good, without succumbing to external pressures. “Let me tell you something. If you ever see anything and you think, ‘Oh I really like that, I’m going to get it for myself’… get it,” she advised. “Don’t even think about the people out there who are like, ‘Can’t wear that’, ‘Oh it’s too young for you’, ‘Oh it’s not age appropriate.’”

Solomon reinforced this sentiment with a powerful statement: “Never let anyone tell you you can’t wear something, for any reason.” She emphasized that such restrictions based on size, age, hair colour, or any other characteristic are unfounded. “Wear what makes you happy,” she concluded, framing her response as a “rant for the night.”

Public Support for Solomon’s Candid Approach

Stacey Solomon has cultivated a loyal following who appreciate her genuine and open communication style on social media. She frequently shares candid insights into her life, including home projects, parenting challenges, and the everyday realities that resonate with many.

Her recent stance against age-based fashion judgment aligns with this established pattern of authenticity. It pushes back against the societal expectation that women should adopt a more subdued or conventional style as they get older.

Recent Family Harmony Also Praised

This fashion defence follows closely on the heels of public admiration for Solomon’s ability to foster positive family relationships. Just days prior, she was commended for an amicable outing with her husband, Joe Swash, and her former partner, Dean Cox. Solomon shares her eldest son, Zachary, with Cox, whom she dated in her teenage years.

The blended family’s harmonious interaction was widely praised by fans who applauded the adults for prioritizing Zachary’s well-being and maintaining a cordial relationship long after their romantic involvement ended. This display of maturity and mutual respect resonated positively with the public.

Conclusion: Dressing for Oneself

Through her recent actions, Stacey Solomon is making it clear that she is not only adept at navigating complex family dynamics but also resolute in her personal choices regarding self-expression. Her firm stance on fashion demonstrates a commitment to personal happiness and confidence, asserting that if an outfit brings her joy, she will wear it, irrespective of societal expectations or the number of birthdays she has celebrated. Her message empowers others to adopt a similar philosophy, encouraging them to dress in ways that make them feel their best.
