Texas Senator Ted Cruz took a playful swipe at Meghan Markle’s assertion that she is the most trolled person in the world. During an interview, Cruz declared that the distinction belongs to former President Donald Trump.
Cruz Weighs In on Trolling
Cruz addressed the ongoing online criticism faced by Trump, noting, ‘Like most trolling in life, some is fair and some is unfair.’ He admitted to experiencing internet mockery himself, adding, ‘When it’s funny, I laugh!’ The senator also revealed that he occasionally fires back at critics when the opportunity arises.
Despite the jab, Cruz offered praise for Markle’s acting, stating he ‘enjoyed’ her role in the television series Suits, which he described as an ‘awesome’ show.
Meghan’s Speech on Social Media Impact
The comments come amid Meghan and Prince Harry’s ongoing tour in Australia. Speaking to students at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Meghan highlighted the perils of social media and its effects on mental health. She shared her personal struggles, saying, ‘For now, ten years, every day for ten years, I have been bullied and attacked. And I was the most trolled person in the entire world.’
Encouraging resilience, she urged the audience to stay strong, adding, ‘I’m still here.’
Prince Harry’s Emotional Reflections
Later, at the $1,000-a-head InterEdge Summit in Melbourne, Prince Harry sparked discussion by admitting he never aspired to be a working royal. He linked the role to the death of his mother, Princess Diana, explaining that it left him feeling ‘lost, betrayed, or completely powerless.’
Harry recounted his reluctance after his mother’s passing just before his 13th birthday: ‘I don’t want this job. I don’t want this role wherever this is headed, I don’t like it. It killed my mum, and I was very much against it.’ He confessed to ignoring these feelings for years until a shift in perspective. ‘Eventually, I realized – well, hang on, if there was somebody else in this position, how would they be making the most of this platform… And also, what would my mum want me to do? And that really changed my own perspective.’
Harry suggested this realization aligned with what his mother would have desired, leading him to step away from royal duties and relocate to the United States with Meghan.
