Tragic Incident in South London

A 17-year-old boy has been fatally stabbed in Battersea, south London. Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of murder as part of their ongoing investigation. The victim has been identified as Jamal Coombes.

Arrests in Connection with Fatal Assault

Officers responded to reports on Glycena Road in the early hours of Saturday morning, accompanied by emergency medical services, including London’s Air Ambulance. Upon arrival, they discovered Jamal Coombes, 17, with critical injuries. Paramedics provided immediate care, but sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives investigating the homicide have now made three arrests. Initially, on Saturday, June 20, a boy and a girl, both aged 15, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder. The following day, Sunday, June 21, a 14-year-old boy was also arrested on the same charge. All three individuals remain in custody.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie expressed his condolences, stating, “Our thoughts remain firmly with Jamal’s loved ones following his tragic death.” He acknowledged the significant impact the incident has had on the local community and encouraged residents to speak with officers on patrol.

DCI Howie issued a direct appeal to the public as inquiries continue. Investigators believe an altercation preceded the fatal assault. He is urging anyone who was in the Lavender Hill area, specifically Glycena Road, Acanthus Road, or Pountney Road, between 03:30 and 05:00 hours on Saturday, and witnessed a group of men running, to come forward.

“Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could prove crucial,” DCI Howie emphasized. He highlighted the potential importance of CCTV, doorbell, or mobile phone footage that could provide vital evidence. Furthermore, he urged the public not to assume information has already been shared, stressing that any detail could be of significant importance to the investigation.
