Teyana Taylor’s Bold Red Carpet Appearance

Teyana Taylor captivated onlookers on the red carpet at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday evening. The 35-year-old Oscar nominee showcased her toned physique in a striking bronze Tom Ford gown featuring a deep plunge and asymmetrical cut-out that highlighted her midriff. Opting for a braless look, she exuded confidence in the shimmering ensemble.

Complementing the gown’s dramatic style, Taylor wore a Tiffany & Co. necklace valued at $33,000 and matching earrings worth $3,600. She struck dynamic poses before entering the venue, where she later joined Jamie Foxx for photos. During the ceremony, Taylor teamed up with comedian Nikki Glaser to present the Best Pop Vocal Album award to Lady Gaga.

Rising Star and Recent Accolades

Taylor’s appearance comes amid growing excitement for her potential Oscar success. Last month, she secured a Best Supporting Actress win for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in the film One Battle After Another. This triumph marked a significant milestone for the artist, who first gained prominence through reality television.

Her acting career has surged recently, including a role in Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair alongside stars like Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson, and Glenn Close. Despite the series receiving harsh reviews and a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Taylor’s performance in One Battle After Another earned her a Golden Globe. In her acceptance speech, she reflected on the unexpected victory, noting she nearly skipped preparing remarks.

“To Paul ‘Let ‘Em Cook’ Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance,” Taylor stated. “My gratitude is endless.” She also expressed love for the director, saying, “I love you, we love you and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.”

Taylor dedicated part of her speech to her daughters, 10-year-old Iman ‘Junie’ Tayla Shumpert Jr. and 5-year-old Rue Rose Shumpert, who were watching from home. Married to former NBA player Iman Shumpert since 2016, she humorously urged, “Y’all better be off those damn phones and watching me right now,” while calling her family her “grounding force.”

Addressing young Black women, Taylor added an empowering message: “Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”

From Music Roots to Acting Stardom

Originally from Harlem, New York, Taylor entered the spotlight at 16 on MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 in 2007. Encouraged by her mother and manager, Nikki Taylor, she pursued music, dance, and fashion early on. At 15, she choreographed Beyoncé’s “Ring the Alarm” video.

Signing with Star Trak Entertainment, an Interscope Records imprint founded by Pharrell Williams, Taylor featured in videos for Jay-Z and Kanye West. In 2020, she took a hiatus from music, returning in 2025 with her fourth studio album, Escape Room, which earned her first Grammy nomination in the Best R&B Album category.

Reflecting on her past association with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, which she left in 2020 feeling underappreciated, Taylor addressed their friendship in a recent interview. She appeared in his 2016 “Fade” video. “I don’t have to agree with everything that he do or say, but I’m not going to, like, abandon him,” she explained. West faced backlash for antisemitic remarks but later stated on social media, “I am done with antisemitism. I love all people.”
