Crewe Strikes First

Crewe opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Alfie Pond. Tommi O’Reilly, the on-loan winger pulling strings in midfield, sliced a low cross from the byline. Pond’s initial effort drew a save from Rovers goalkeeper Brad Young, but the ball ricocheted off a Crewe defender and trickled into the corner, giving the visitors an early lead in a match short on clear opportunities.

Rovers Mount Second-Half Surge

Crewe controlled the first half, but Bristol Rovers transformed after the break with a sharper performance. The hosts pressed forward relentlessly, earning their equalizer in the 87th minute when Leigh powered a header into the net at the back post. It marked Leigh’s debut goal for Rovers since his arrival on transfer deadline day in January.

Just five minutes later, Leigh struck again, rifling a shot past Crewe keeper Ian Lawlor at the near post to seal the comeback win and snatch all three points.
