President Donald Trump has announced his attendance at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, ending a long-standing boycott of the journalist-hosted event.
Trump shared the news in a Truth Social post, stating he will join Washington dignitaries and Hollywood celebrities at the late April gathering.
“In honor of our Nation’s 250th Birthday, and the fact that these ‘Correspondents’ now admit that I am truly one of the Greatest Presidents in the History of our Country, the G.O.A.T., according to many, it will be my Honor to accept their invitation, and work to make it the GREATEST, HOTTEST, and MOST SPECTACULAR DINNER, OF ANY KIND, EVER!” Trump wrote.
History of the Event
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner began in 1924 during President Calvin Coolidge’s administration. The White House Correspondents’ Association organizes the annual event to support the White House press corps. Trump stands as the only president to consistently skip it in recent years.
Reasons for Past Boycotts
Trump explained his previous decisions to avoid the dinner, citing tensions with the media.
“Because the Press was extraordinarily bad to me, FAKE NEWS ALL, right from the beginning of my First Term, I boycotted the event, and never went as Honoree,” he stated.
Despite this history, Trump expressed enthusiasm for this year’s event.
“However, I look forward to being with everyone this year. Hopefully, it will be something very Special. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
