President Donald Trump has unveiled detailed renderings of a temporary stadium transforming the White House South Lawn into a 4,000-seat arena for the first-ever sporting event at the iconic landmark.
Landmark UFC Event for America’s 250th Anniversary
This unprecedented UFC card, dubbed UFC Freedom 250, marks the kickoff to celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. After over a year of meticulous planning, the event is set for July 15. The stadium design features the White House as a dramatic backdrop for global broadcasts, with the Washington Monument visible in reverse shots. Two expansive arches will frame the Octagon, highlighting the president’s residence for television viewers.
Star-Studded Fight Card
The main event pits lightweight champions Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje in a unification bout, with the Georgian fighter returning from a hiatus. The co-main features Alex Pereira against top-ranked heavyweight Ciryl Gane. Despite initial rumors of returns by Jon Jones and Conor McGregor, the card focuses on elite matchups. Fighters will make walkouts directly from the White House, with weigh-ins held at the Lincoln Memorial the day prior.
Trump Showcases Plans in Oval Office
During a recent Oval Office briefing, Trump displayed the construction renderings with fighters including Gaethje and Topuria positioned behind the Resolute Desk. “I’m a big sports fan. There are no people tougher in sports than the people behind me. These are the toughest. I know them all,” Trump declared. He described the bout as the “greatest show on earth” and noted that up to 100,000 spectators can view the fights via large screens around Washington, D.C.
Justin Gaethje praised the initiative: “What an unbelievable honour. To have a president that’s willing to go against an upstream and against the norms is truly special. That’s why you got my vote. And it’s why we’re such a great nation right now compared to where we were.”
Event Logistics and Security
UFC CEO Dana White revealed earlier glimpses of the arced stadium and confirmed Ivanka Trump’s key role in planning. Commentator Joe Rogan recently called the spectacle “insane.” Attendees must pass rigorous security checks to access the grounds, ensuring safety for this historic showcase.
