A Winnipeg man faces conviction on five counts of second-degree murder after a Court of King’s Bench jury delivered its verdict just hours into deliberations.
Details of the Case
Jamie Felix pleaded not guilty to the 2023 shootings that took place in a West Broadway rooming house, which had become a notorious drug den. The two-week trial revealed that Felix spent several days consuming crack cocaine and alcohol at the location before the fatal incident in one of the units.
Felix later confessed to his ex-girlfriend that he carried out the shootings.
Victims Identified
The victims include Crystal Beardy, 34; her sister Stephanie Beardy, 33; Melelek Lesikel, 29; Dylan Lavallee, 41; and Shawn Marko, 56.
Prosecution and Defense Arguments
Prosecutors argued that Felix acted out of paranoia during the attacks. In contrast, the defense claimed he was set up as a patsy by his late father.
