A 23-year-old German adventurer, Luca Pferdmenges, has explored every country on the planet and shares his insights with 2.9 million social media followers. He pinpointed Egypt as the most frustrating destination for tourists.
Overrated Tourist Hotspots
Pferdmenges criticizes several popular spots as overly touristy with little beyond scenic beaches. These include France, the Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, and most Caribbean Lesser Antilles islands. He describes the Caribbean overall as “super-overrated.”
“Egypt is the most annoying country for tourists in my opinion,” he states.
Underrated Travel Gems
In contrast, Pferdmenges highlights underrated destinations like the Baltic states, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, and many Latin American nations. These places, often overlooked, offer excitement and affordability compared to mainstream sites.
He praises Bhutan and Myanmar as “really unknown” and “some of the prettiest countries in the world.”
Europe’s Safety Concerns and Hidden Beauties
Addressing European safety, Pferdmenges flags Belgium as feeling “super unsafe” at night, calling it “pretty ugly” and “grey.” He also views Paris, London, and Frankfurt as riskier spots.
He advises skipping crowded favorites like France, Italy, and Greece, noting Europe holds “40 other countries worth exploring.” Standouts include Montenegro and Slovenia, which he deems “some of the most beautiful countries in the world – and cheap – but nobody visits them.”
Top Destinations and Favorite City
Pferdmenges lists nine favorite countries: Mexico, Brazil, Israel, Spain, Bhutan, the UK, the UAE, Portugal, and Austria. His top European city is Lisbon, Portugal.
In a TikTok video on his thegermantravelguy channel, he raves: “It’s honestly so gorgeous. I honestly love Lisbon, I was thinking of moving here at some point but not at the moment. I love coming back here and trying all of the vegan Portuguese food like vegan pastel de nata. It’s one of my favorite cities, maybe my favourite city in Europe, Lisbon, it’s gorgeous and has everything you need.”
Some fans push back on his Egypt assessment, suggesting he missed the best spots.
