Yungblud Crowdsurfs in Wheelchair After Leg Injury

Published on

Musician Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Harrison, has demonstrated remarkable dedication to his fans by performing at recent European festivals despite sustaining a broken leg. The Doncaster-born artist, known for his energetic stage presence, has adapted his signature move of diving into the crowd, opting instead to crowdsurf in his wheelchair during performances.

Festival Performances Amidst Injury

Harrison shared news of his injury on social media, revealing it stemmed from a motorbike accident. Despite the setback, he assured fans that his upcoming live shows would proceed as planned. He posted images of himself on crutches, stating, “Leg fucked. Still giggin. Still standin (sort of).” He confirmed his intention to perform at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium and CA Vilar de Mouros in Portugal, promising an “epic” experience for attendees.

True to his word, Yungblud performed at the festival in Portugal, delivering a memorable rendition of his 2022 song ‘Fleabag.’ During the performance, he executed his characteristic dive into the audience, this time navigating the crowd from his wheelchair. This act underscored his commitment to engaging with his fans, even while managing a significant physical injury.

Artist’s Perspective and Recovery Plans

Following the Portugal gig, Yungblud spoke about the experience on his community channel, expressing disbelief at how they managed to get through the show. He thanked the audience for their energy, his team for their support, and specifically mentioned the women who assisted him, calling them “fucking legends.” He acknowledged experiencing some pain but remained undeterred, looking forward to his next performance.

“If you’re going to be there on Friday, give me the fucking energy,” he urged fans attending the Pukkelpop festival. “Honestly, I need it to be wild.” Harrison elaborated on his injury, stating he had damaged ligaments in his knee. He indicated plans to undergo surgery after the current run of shows to aid his recovery and prepare for extensive touring scheduled for the following year.

Recent Career Highlights and Future Endeavors

Yungblud’s current festival appearances follow a series of North American dates, including a performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago. He has also participated in other European events over the summer, such as BludFest in Czechia. These shows support his recent double album, ‘Idols,’ the second part of which was released earlier this year.

The artist has been involved in several notable events recently. During a concert in Montana, he facilitated a gender reveal for a couple on stage. Additionally, Smashing Pumpkins invited Yungblud to join them on stage during their headlining set at Lollapalooza. Earlier in the summer, he withdrew from the Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary, citing a need to take time off for personal development and self-care.

Earlier in the year, Harrison achieved a significant milestone by winning his first Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance. The award recognized his live cover of the song ‘Changes,’ performed at Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell concert.

Critical Reception and Artistic Evolution

Reviews of Yungblud’s double album, ‘Idols,’ have highlighted its significance in his career. A four-star review noted that the album marks a new chapter for Dominic Harrison, symbolizing a newfound freedom of thought. While the album might not revolutionize the rock genre sonically, it has been recognized as the soundtrack to his most successful period to date, contributing to the assurance of Yungblud’s future in the music industry.

Yungblud’s resilience in the face of injury, coupled with his unwavering commitment to performing for his fans, has cemented his reputation as a dynamic and dedicated artist. His ability to adapt his performances, like crowdsurfing in a wheelchair, demonstrates a unique connection with his audience and a determination to continue delivering memorable live experiences.
