A 12-year-old schoolgirl from Congleton, Cheshire, faces conviction on child sex offenses after downloading and distributing illegal images of children online. Seeking friends on the Discord gaming platform, she inadvertently joined a chatroom frequented by pedophiles.
Disturbing Discovery and Collection
Over two years, the girl accumulated more than 200 prohibited images of minors. She accessed extreme pornography, including videos of bestiality—one depicting sex with a chicken—and others showing children self-harming. Authorities later discovered she shared a category A image of child sexual abuse via Snapchat when she was 13.
Police acted on a tip-off, tracing her activity through her internet provider’s IP address. Officers raided her family home, where she lives with her parents, and seized her mobile phone and other devices. The search uncovered 57 category A images—the most severe classification—54 category B images, and 120 category C images.
Court Proceedings and Sentence
Now 15, the girl appeared at Crewe Youth Court, where she broke down in tears while admitting eight charges: one count of possessing extreme pornography, three counts of possessing indecent images, three counts of making indecent images, and one count of distributing an indecent image.
The court imposed a one-year referral order, along with costs and a £111 surcharge. Described as of good character, the girl now faces device restrictions enforced by her parents.
Defense lawyer Jim Edwards stated: “She deeply regrets her actions and is very very sorry.”
Government Moves on Social Media Restrictions
In related developments, Education Minister Olivia Bailey informed the House of Commons that the government plans to enforce age or functionality restrictions on social media for those under 16, irrespective of ongoing consultation outcomes. This decision follows advocacy from the House of Lords, spearheaded by Lord Nash, a former Tory education minister and academy chain founder.
