Jury Duty’s Exciting Return
The popular Amazon Prime series Jury Duty, which captivated audiences with its innovative premise, is set to launch a new chapter. The show, reminiscent of a real-life Truman Show, featured Ronald Gladden as the sole unwitting participant in a fabricated scenario. Now, the second installment shifts the setting from a courtroom to a corporate environment.
Company Retreat: The New Setup
Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat follows Anthony, a temporary worker at a fictional hot sauce company, as he attends what he believes is the firm’s annual retreat. Unbeknownst to him, the entire event is staged, with all other participants being professional actors. This mirrors the original series’ structure, where only the central figure remains in the dark.
Ronald Gladden, the breakout star from the first season, recently shared a teaser trailer on social media. He emphasized the need for patience, noting that he maintained the original show’s secrecy for 14 months, even from his family. In the trailer, Anthony’s voice captures the surreal experience: ‘If I go home and tell my parents about this stuff, they’re going to be like: “You’re lying.”‘
Behind the Scenes and Production
The original Jury Duty premiered in 2023 and quickly gained popularity. Gladden arrived expecting routine jury duty, only to participate in a mock trial orchestrated by actors, including James Marsden, who portrayed an exaggerated version of himself. Marsden’s humorous interactions with Gladden became a highlight.
Filming for Company Retreat took place last year in Agoura Hills, a Los Angeles suburb. The production team includes notable figures such as executive producer James Marsden, alongside David Bernad from The White Lotus, Lee Eisenberg from Lessons in Chemistry, and Gene Stupnitsky from The Office. While Marsden won’t appear on screen, Gladden is slated for a cameo.
Details on the returning cast remain limited, but the spinoff promises fresh twists in the mockumentary format.
Release Schedule and Impact
The first three episodes of Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat debut on March 20, followed by two more on March 27, and the final three on April 3. Fans have expressed enthusiasm online, with comments like ‘I’m freaking out, this could not come sooner!’ and ‘It was a great experiment; I can’t wait for the new season.’
Gladden’s involvement in the original series propelled his career. He received a $100,000 prize and secured a two-year development deal with Amazon MGM Studios in November. This project marks his first under that agreement, potentially offering similar opportunities for Anthony.
The series draws inspiration from the 1998 film The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank, whose life is unknowingly broadcast as reality TV. Jury Duty adapts this concept into shorter, episodic adventures.
