Buckingham Palace announces its full support for police examining allegations against Prince Andrew, who maintains he did no wrong. The King’s unprecedented step toward his brother draws praise as long overdue amid fresh claims tied to Jeffrey Epstein.
Palace Pledges Assistance to Investigators
Buckingham Palace issued a statement highlighting the King’s profound concern over ongoing allegations about Prince Andrew’s conduct. The Palace declared: “The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct.”
The statement adds: “While the specific claims in question are for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley Police we stand ready to support them as you would expect. As was previously stated, Their Majesties’ thoughts and sympathies have been, and remain with, the victims of any and all forms of abuse.”
Details of the Allegations
The complaints stem from a reports the anti-monarchist group Republic to Thames Valley Police. They allege misconduct in public office and breach of official secrets during Andrew’s tenure as a trade envoy. Newly released emails from the Epstein files appear to indicate that Andrew shared sensitive information with the convicted sex offender.
Thames Valley Police, responsible for the Windsor area, confirmed it is assessing whether grounds exist for a formal investigation. Prince Andrew has always denied any misconduct linked to Epstein. Last October, the King removed his royal titles and honors.
Royal Experts Weigh In
Royal editor Rebecca English described the Palace’s position as “extraordinary and unprecedented,” calling it overdue. She explained that the Palace navigates a challenging situation, but the King conveyed his deep concern and personal outrage over the claims.
Diary editor Richard Eden urged stronger action, stating the King should press Andrew to cooperate with authorities. He remarked: “You know that he needs to put pressure on him to do so. It’s not enough just to say, ‘Oh I’m a bit concerned about this’, you know you’re in charge, do something. You’re in charge, you’re the king.”
Public Encounters Highlight Tensions
The King recently faced public questions about his brother’s Epstein connections. In Clitheroe, a man shouted: “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?” prompting boos from onlookers. This followed similar heckling during an official visit to Essex days earlier.
