Bakery79 Rivals Greggs with Rapid Growth and Epic Too Good To Go Bags

Published on

Greggs dominates the British snack scene with sausage rolls and doughnuts, but Bakery79 emerges as a formidable challenger in the food-to-go market.

Rapid Expansion Across the UK

This emerging chain launched in the UK in early 2025 and now operates around 80 stores, primarily in southern England. Locations also appear in northern areas like Newcastle, Durham, and Aberdeenshire in Scotland.

Park Garage Group, the owners, converted former Greggs concessions at their forecourts into 12 new Bakery79 sites last March. The company opened another 12 stores this year and plans 20 fully-fledged outlets plus 10 self-service locations by the end of 2026.

Mother’s Day Treat for Single Mums

Bakery79 supports single mothers with a special promotion this Mother’s Day, Sunday, March 15. Single mums can claim a free Yum Yum between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. by saying ‘Yum Yums for Single Mums’ at the counter.

Representatives explain, ‘The giveaway recognizes single mums who often juggle childcare, work, and responsibilities without treats for themselves.’

Diverse Menu of Fresh Bites

The menu features breakfast classics like bacon baps, sausage baps, breakfast pots, potato poppers, and baguettes. Lunch options include pizzas, halloumi bites, chicken bites, sandwiches, and sausage rolls. Sweet treats cover cookies, doughnuts, and more, paired with quality coffees.

A staff member claims their breakfast bowl surpasses Greggs offerings. Another employee, Jackie, praises the pastries: ‘In other stores, you usually get a lot of pastry and not much inside, but these are full, especially the ones with beans. The sausage rolls are really nice too.’

Customers Rave About Quality and Vibe

Bakery79 fosters a community atmosphere in every store, creating warm, welcoming spaces. Regular customer Emily K shares, ‘The community vibe at Bakery79 makes it special, and the baked goods are to die for!’ Mike C adds, ‘Always fresh, always tasty – Bakery79 is my go-to for a quick bite and great coffee!’

Social Media Buzz and Value Deals

TikTok users highlight the appeal. Food creator @Liam_Lav, discovering a new site in Ashington, Northumberland, exclaimed, ‘The stuff in here looks absolutely lush,’ and called the pizza ‘unreal.’

Pizza slices cost £2.79, slightly above Greggs’ £2.75 pepperoni at £2.75, but customers praise the quality, including new Meat Feast options.

Too Good To Go bags draw fans for £2.95, packed with sandwiches, baguettes, doughnuts, cookies, and flatbread bowls. @jadamson98official posted, ‘I am obsessed with Bakery79. The food is stunning, and the amount of food for £2.95 a bag is unreal!’
