Chelsea Women will host every Women’s Super League (WSL) match at Stamford Bridge starting next season. This move positions them as the fourth top-flight club to bring their women’s team to the primary stadium, aiming to boost visibility and expand the fanbase.
Decision-Making Process
The club reached this decision following discussions with players, partners, the Chelsea fan advisory board, and various Chelsea Women supporter groups. After nearly a decade at Kingsmeadow, the eight-time English champions shift to the 40,000-capacity venue in the heart of west London.
Players’ Open Letter
In an open letter to fans, the players emphasized the broader significance: “This moment is not just for us. It’s for every player to have worn the Chelsea badge. It’s for every person who has pushed the women’s game forward. It’s for every supporter who has been with us on our incredible journey.
“This is a new chapter, but our ambition remains the same. We want to win. We want to lift more trophies. We want to create further history. That is what Chelsea has always done – and we’re going to continue that legacy with our supporters beside us at the Bridge.”
New Brand and Fan Initiatives
The announcement coincides with the rollout of a new Chelsea Women brand identity, “Never Done,” designed to strengthen culture, increase attendance, and generate more revenue. Recent efforts include fan activations like “Bottomless at the Bridge,” a popular hospitality brunch option.
Plans also include launching “The Blueprint,” a dedicated fan focus group to guide improvements in culture, atmosphere, and experiences at Stamford Bridge.
Attendance and Stadium History
This season, four WSL games already take place at Stamford Bridge, drawing a peak crowd of 30,545 against Arsenal in January. The stadium record stands at 34,302. It has hosted Chelsea’s home Champions League matches since September.
CEO’s Vision
CEO Aki Mandhar highlighted the strategic importance: “Our commitment to play all Women’s Super League matches at Stamford Bridge from next season reaffirms our ambition and intent to make CFCW the leading women’s sports club in the world. Playing the team’s WSL matches at such an iconic ground ensures our players and supporters have the arena they deserve as we look to propel the game into its next phase of growth.”
Kingsmeadow remains in use for additional academy matches starting this autumn.
