King Charles and Queen Camilla kick off their state visit to the United States today, set against heightened security following a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Security Arrangements Confirmed
Britain’s ambassador to the US, Sir Christopher Turner, confirms that all appropriate security measures are in place for the royal visit. The planning between UK and US security teams has been ongoing for weeks, with flexibility for any necessary adjustments.
Sir Christopher Turner stated, “The real point is that our respective security teams have been in close touch for weeks. And any operational changes we have to make, we can make them as we go, and we are all very confident that all appropriate security measures are in place.”
The incident occurred on Saturday when President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were rushed off stage after gunshots were heard at the dinner. Minor tweaks to a few royal engagements are planned, but the overall itinerary remains intact.
Princess Anne’s Busy Schedule
Princess Anne, serving as Colonel of the Blues and Royals, presents NATO operational medals at the Royal Hospital Chelsea today. She also attends a Worldwide Graduation Ceremony at the Barbican Centre.
