Russell Wilson eyes a potential 15th NFL season as a backup quarterback for the New York Jets while weighing a lucrative offer to join CBS Sports as an analyst for 2026. The Super Bowl champion remains a free agent following a challenging 2025 stint with the New York Giants.
Balancing TV Opportunity and Playing Future
Sources close to Wilson indicate he leans toward the television role but keeps his options open for an in-season return. “He would highly consider joining a team later in the season that is making a playoff push,” the source stated. “He feels that TV is his future, but he could have a clause in his contract to sign with a team if needed.”
At 37, Wilson started the 2025 campaign as the Giants’ starting quarterback but lost the role to Jaxson Dart after three games. The insider added, “He is eager not to retire and have one final moment, but he is OK taking a year off and trying TV. He’s going the route of having his cake and eating it too.”
Past Achievements and Jets Outlook
Wilson’s pinnacle came with the Seattle Seahawks, where he led the team to a dominant 43-8 Super Bowl victory over the Denver Broncos in 2014. The following year, they fell 28-24 to the New England Patriots in a heartbreaking fourth-quarter collapse.
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Wilson confirmed the Jets’ offer after visiting the team under coach Aaron Glenn. “It was great. They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do,” he said. “I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also have the opportunity to do TV, so we’ll see what happens.”
The Jets endured a 3-14 record in 2025 but bolstered their roster with three first-round draft picks. While optimism surrounds their 2026 prospects, Wilson may prefer waiting for a contender amid potential injuries elsewhere.
