The New South Wales Blues secured the 2026 Women’s State of Origin series with a dramatic 14-10 victory over the Queensland Maroons in an epic clash at Suncorp Stadium. Outstanding try-saving tackles in the closing stages proved decisive against a resilient Maroons outfit.
Crucial Defensive Heroics
In the final 15 minutes, the Maroons mounted a fierce comeback, with winger Jasmine Peters twice threatening to level the scores. Blues halfback Jesse Southwell executed a remarkable tackle in the 57th minute, preventing Peters from grounding the ball despite appearing beaten.
“What an incredible play,” commentator Phil Gould remarked.
With under a minute remaining, fullback Teagan Berry produced another desperate effort, forcing Peters’ foot into touch just before the ball touched down.
Match Timeline
The Blues surged to an 8-0 lead early through tries from Jaime Chapman and Keeley Davis. Queensland struggled with execution until winger Rory Owen crossed just before halftime off a precise Tamika Upton pass.
After the break, dummy-half Jada Ferguson burrowed over from close range to give the Maroons a brief lead. The Blues hit back swiftly as centre Jess Sergis powered through defenders for a crucial try. Southwell’s perfect sideline conversion restored a 14-10 advantage that held firm.
This triumph marks the Blues’ second consecutive series victory.
