Connecticut Woman Faces Murder Charge in 2018 Dumpster Infant Case
A Connecticut woman has been arrested and charged with murder, nearly a decade after the lifeless body of a newborn infant was discovered in a dumpster. Dominique Harrison, 28, now faces murder charges in connection with the grim discovery made in 2018.
Harrison appeared in court on Monday for her arraignment following her arrest last week. Prosecutors allege that she abandoned her newborn son, who was reportedly alive at the time of his birth, in a remote location.
Allegations of Depravity and Abandonment
During the court proceedings, Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Caitlin Harding described the case with stark terms. “Your honor, the case before you paints a picture of a level of depravity that is nearly inconceivable,” Harding stated. “The facts allege she put that newborn baby son alive in a dumpster in a remote area so that no one could save that baby’s life.”
The timeline for the charges remains unclear, with questions lingering about why it took eight years to bring Harrison into custody for the alleged crime.
Evidence and Confession
According to statements made by Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Harding, law enforcement officials gathered evidence that ultimately led to Harrison. Following multiple rounds of questioning, she is reported to have admitted to the crime. “She gave interviews after arrest that are leading to additional investigations as well,” the deputy assistant state’s attorney indicated.
Bail and Defense Arguments
Prosecutors argued for Harrison to be held on a substantial bond, citing her alleged actions as a danger to society. However, her defense attorney, Ryan McGuigan, contested this characterization. “The state may paint her as a threat to society, but I don’t think that’s the case. I don’t believe that’s the case,” McGuigan stated. “She had been active in the community and has been able to maintain full-time employment.”
As Harrison entered the courtroom, members of the victim’s family were observed leaving in tears. She is currently being held on a $2.5 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on July 31.
