Tom Brady’s Card Store Hit by Burglary Days After Opening

Published on

A trading card store co-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady has been burglarized less than two weeks after its grand opening. The incident occurred at the newest location of CardVault, a business in which Brady holds a significant stake, in Palo Alto, California.

CardVault Store Suffers Break-In

The Palo Alto Police Department reported that the CardVault store, situated on El Camino Real, was broken into around 12:30 AM on Sunday, August 23. Authorities stated that the perpetrators gained entry by breaking a window. During the burglary, an estimated 60 trading cards, valued at over $12,000, were stolen. Several display cases within the store were also damaged. As of the latest reports, the individuals responsible for the break-in remain at large.

The store had only recently opened its doors, with its grand opening event taking place on August 15. The Palo Alto Police Department had even participated in the opening, with Officer Tom Brady sharing a photo with a police officer on the department’s Instagram page on August 17. The post welcomed Brady to the neighborhood and noted the event had attracted a large crowd.

History of Security Incidents

This is not the first time a CardVault location has been targeted. In October 2025, a store in New York City experienced a similar incident, resulting in the theft of approximately $10,000 worth of baseball and Pokémon cards. These repeated security breaches raise concerns for the expanding franchise.

About CardVault and Tom Brady’s Involvement

Tom Brady became more deeply involved with CardVault in February 2025, when the company rebranded to ‘CardVault by Tom Brady’ following his acquisition of a 50% ownership stake. Brady has expressed his long-standing connection to sports collectibles, stating, “Sports collectibles and cards have been part of my DNA since childhood, and CardVault has set the gold standard for what a modern fan experience should be.” He further elaborated on the business’s mission, saying, “This isn’t just about buying and selling cards; it’s about curating history, building community, turning fans into collectors, and giving them access to own great moments in sports.”

CardVault has been actively expanding its physical presence, opening numerous new locations across the United States with a goal of reaching 100 stores nationwide. The company has also been enhancing its digital platform to connect with collectors online.

Significant Investment and Partnerships

The company has recently attracted substantial investment from a notable group of high-profile individuals and entities. This influx of capital includes backing from athletes such as Aaron Judge and Connor McDavid, as well as figures like Dana White, the Kraft Group, John Henry, Wyc Grousbeck, and Linda Henry. CardVault co-Founder Ed Kane highlighted the synergy of these partnerships, stating, “The intersection of sports, culture, and collectibles has never been more relevant. Tom Brady is bringing his lifelong passion for card collecting, business acumen, brand power, and relentless pursuit of excellence to CardVault. Together, we are ready to build something truly game-changing.”

Conclusion

The recent burglary at the Palo Alto CardVault location underscores ongoing security challenges for the rapidly growing business. Despite these setbacks, the company, bolstered by significant investment and the involvement of sports icon Tom Brady, continues its ambitious expansion plans across the country, aiming to redefine the sports collectibles market.
