The Gentlemen Season 2 Finale: Who Dies and What Happens?

Published on

The second season of the action-comedy series The Gentlemen, created by Guy Ritchie, concludes with a dramatic and violent finale that answers lingering questions and introduces shocking twists. The season, which picks up a year after the events of the first, follows Eddie Horniman as he navigates and expands his burgeoning criminal enterprise. All eight episodes of the second season were released on Netflix on September 3, 2026.

Unraveling the Mystery of Bella’s Death

A central mystery resolved in the season two finale is the death of Eddie’s wife, Bella. It is revealed that Bella was murdered by Eddie’s brother, Freddy, and John ‘The Gospel’ Dixon. Their motivations stemmed from a complex web of resentment and revenge. John blamed Eddie for the death of his own brother, Tommy, in the previous season. Meanwhile, Freddy harbored ill will towards Eddie after their father’s will excluded him, leaving Eddie as the primary heir.

The pair orchestrated Bella’s death by rigging an airplane to explode at a specific altitude, intending to kill both Eddie and Bella. Tragically, only Bella was aboard the aircraft when it detonated. Following this, Freddy and John planned a further assault on Halstead Manor, aiming to eliminate Eddie and secure Freddy’s position. However, this subsequent plan also failed, with all intended targets surviving the attack.

The Violent Climax of the Finale

Upon discovering Freddy and John’s involvement in Bella’s murder, Eddie devises a plan for retribution. With assistance from Carlos Vargas, Eddie orchestrates the kidnapping of John ‘The Gospel’ Dixon. Subsequently, Eddie confronts his brother, Freddy, outside the rehabilitation facility where he is staying.

The confrontation escalates into a physical altercation in a nearby field. The struggle culminates with Eddie holding Freddy at gunpoint. Despite the intense situation and Freddy’s plea, Eddie ultimately spares his brother’s life, though he ominously remarks that “someone’s got to die.”

At this precise moment, a van arrives. Inside, John ‘The Gospel’ Dixon is bound, accompanied by one of Susie’s associates wielding a chainsaw. In a brutal turn of events, Freddy is forcibly placed into the back of the van, and the doors are shut. The sound of the chainsaw starting and muffled screams emanates from within.

Freddy’s Grisly Revenge

Moments later, the van door opens, and Freddy emerges, visibly shaken and in a state of frenzy. He holds aloft the severed head of John ‘The Gospel’ Dixon, a gruesome testament to the violence that has unfolded. The episode concludes with a chilling final shot of Freddy screaming into the distance, his body covered in blood. This shocking act brings the season’s exploration of forgiveness and vengeance to a brutal head, with Eddie choosing to spare his brother while orchestrating a horrific death for John.

Character Arcs and Thematic Resonance

The season finale of The Gentlemen brings several character arcs to a dramatic conclusion, emphasizing the cyclical nature of violence and the heavy cost of revenge. Eddie’s journey throughout the season has been one of reluctant descent into the criminal underworld, forced by circumstances to protect his family and legacy. His decision to spare Freddy, while simultaneously orchestrating John’s brutal demise, highlights his complex moral compass and his growing ruthlessness.

Freddy’s character arc, marked by his struggles with addiction and his resentment towards Eddie, culminates in a shocking act of violence. His transformation from a somewhat bumbling figure to a blood-soaked participant in a brutal murder underscores the corrupting influence of the criminal world he is now fully immersed in.

Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario, continues to be a pivotal figure, navigating the dangerous landscape of organized crime with shrewdness and determination. Her role in the events leading up to the finale, particularly her association with the man wielding the chainsaw, suggests her increasing involvement and influence within the criminal hierarchy.

Looking Ahead: Potential for Season Three

The violent and conclusive nature of the season two finale leaves several threads open for future exploration. Eddie’s position as the head of the criminal empire is solidified, but his methods and the moral compromises he has made will undoubtedly have repercussions. The fate of Freddy, now a participant in extreme violence, remains uncertain, as does his relationship with Eddie.

Furthermore, the power dynamics within the criminal underworld have been significantly altered. The elimination of John ‘The Gospel’ Dixon and the potential fallout from the events at Halstead Manor could lead to new conflicts and alliances. The series has consistently blended dark humor with intense action, and the stage is set for further intricate plots and character developments in a potential third season.

The finale effectively ties up the immediate plotlines concerning Bella’s murder and the subsequent revenge, while simultaneously setting a darker, more dangerous tone for the future of Eddie Horniman and his involvement in the world of The Gentlemen.
