Eamonn Holmes Confirms GB News Return Amid Health and Legal Battles
Veteran television presenter Eamonn Holmes is set to make a return to GB News, signaling a potential comeback to the airwaves after a challenging period marked by a serious health scare and an impending divorce trial. Holmes, 66, has been recovering following a stroke that led to his hospitalization in April, interrupting a distinguished 45-year career in broadcasting.
While Holmes continues to receive round-the-clock care and focus on his recovery, sources confirm his future with GB News remains secure. An insider close to the situation stated, “Eamonn is one of the channel’s most popular presenters. I can categorically say he WILL be coming back, and any suggestion otherwise is wrong.” The source added that Holmes is being given the necessary time to heal after a difficult period and will be “welcomed back with open arms” once he is back on his feet.
TRIC Awards Nod Amid Absence
The absence of Eamonn Holmes was noticeable at the recent TRIC Awards, held at Grosvenor House on London’s Park Lane. For the past three years, Holmes has been a recipient of the Best News Programme award at the event for GB News’ popular Breakfast Show. This year, however, his colleagues accepted the award on his behalf as he remained under medical supervision.
Former ITV co-host Anne Diamond, who accepted the award, paid tribute to Holmes. “There are a couple of people who would love to be here but can’t for various reasons,” she told the audience. “Stephen Dixon, who is my weekend co-presenter and Eamonn Holmes, who you know is not very well at the moment. But he’s doing well. He’s recovering, and we’re all hoping he’ll be back very soon.”
Holmes, who co-hosts the breakfast show with Ellie Costello, has not been seen on air since March 12. His planned return in April was unfortunately postponed due to his stroke. Alex Armstrong has been filling in for Holmes on the morning program, receiving praise from Costello for his contributions.
A Path to Recovery and Future Plans
Earlier this month, Holmes shared an update from his hospital bed, expressing his eagerness to return to television. He conveyed, “I can’t wait to be out of this gown and back in a suit and tie. Watch this space. I’ll be back after this break.” The exact nature of his return, whether hosting the breakfast show or in a different capacity, remains to be determined.
Holmes’ health challenges began in 2021 with slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis, leading to wheelchair use and daily care before his recent stroke. He has spoken openly about his ongoing back and paralysis issues, expressing hope for a future cure.
Legal Proceedings and Property Dispute
In parallel with his health recovery, Holmes is also navigating a divorce from his wife of 14 years, Ruth Langsford. The couple, who separated two years ago after 27 years together, are reportedly headed to court for a trial scheduled for November to settle their financial affairs. Reports indicate that Langsford wishes to retain their marital home in Weybridge, Surrey, acquired 12 years ago for £3.6 million.
Throughout these personal and professional challenges, Holmes has been supported by his girlfriend, Katie Alexander, who has been a constant presence by his side.
