England Stars Embrace Kansas Culture: Cowboy Boots & Family Time

England Players Trade Boots for Cowboy Style in Kansas

England’s national football team members traded their usual athletic footwear for cowboy boots as they immersed themselves in the Kansas atmosphere over Father’s Day weekend. Following a decisive 4-2 victory against Croatia in their opening World Cup match, the squad was granted a day off to connect with their families.

Western Nights and Family Reunions

Midfielder Jude Bellingham enjoyed a family lunch, accompanied by his influencer girlfriend, Ashlyn Castro, and his parents. Meanwhile, defenders Dan Burn and captain Harry Kane opted for a different cultural experience, attending a country music concert.

Dan Burn described his concert attire: “I put on the cowboy hat and boots. I bought the hats and boots yesterday. I got kitted out, I thought if you are going to do it, then do it properly. So it was a good night.” He also commented on the team’s recent success, stating, “It was such a good performance, a big win against a good team in Croatia.”

Burn elaborated on the team’s downtime: “We did the baseball the other night, had a friends and family day on Friday and my wife and children flew in from Dallas. Then last night we went to see Ella Langley. I like country music, so I put on the cowboy hat and boots.”

Culinary Delights and Star Sightings

Jude Bellingham treated his girlfriend and parents to a meal at Clay and Fire, a Middle Eastern restaurant in Kansas City. The owner, Adam Jones, recounted the experience: “I had no idea who he was but some Brazilian customers in at the time recognised him and were very excited about it. They told me he was a famous footballer.” Jones added that Bellingham enjoyed the meal and expressed interest in returning with his teammates.

Video footage captured Bellingham and Castro engaged in conversation while both using their phones. The England star also posed for photographs with the restaurant owner and other patrons.

Diverse Leisure Activities

Earlier in the day, Bellingham was observed at a Kansas City entertainment complex called Top Golf. Other teammates, including Ivan Toney, Ezri Konsa, Trevoh Chalobah, and Djed Spence, were seen participating in a padel match.

Players were granted permission by manager Thomas Tuchel to spend time with their loved ones following their strong performance. Many families chose to stay at their hotel, the Inn at Meadowbrook, while others explored local parks and attractions with their children. Wives and girlfriends, who had traveled from Dallas, joined the players, including goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s wife, Megan, and their three children. Megan, who had experienced lost luggage earlier in the tournament, celebrated her wedding anniversary with a special note from Jordan.

A source close to the team commented on the importance of family time: “The gaffer said they deserved the time off and so the families were invited to the hotel to be with their players. It was the chance to spend some quality time which is important for mindset and the first real chance they had to spend some quality time together since leaving pre tournament camp.”

Bukayo Saka’s partner, Tolami Benson, shared glimpses of their Kansas City location on social media. Dan Burn’s wife, Roz, and their children, along with Ollie Watkins’ wife, Ellie, and their children, were also part of the family reunions. Harry Kane’s wife, Kate, and their children were reportedly en route to Munich after enjoying a rodeo experience in Dallas.

A New Era of Team Support

This generation of players’ families appears to maintain a lower profile compared to previous tournaments. While in previous years, extensive partying and shopping were notable, the current focus seems to be on quieter family interactions. The team hotel’s policy did not permit overnight stays for families, who were accommodated at a separate five-star establishment.

The logistics of family visits are acknowledged as challenging due to the significant travel distances involved in the tournament. This approach to family integration reflects a departure from the more public displays seen in earlier years, with an emphasis on player well-being and focus.
