An unnamed former professional athlete from South Australia has entered a guilty plea to a charge of aggravated assault causing harm to a young boy. The former sportsman, who hails from Adelaide’s southern suburbs, appeared before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
Court Proceedings and Plea
During the court appearance, the defendant was asked by Magistrate Koula Kassiavelos how he pleaded. The man responded with a simple, “Guilty,” his expression appearing impassive.
The defense indicated that the assault stemmed from an incident involving the defendant and two young boys who were reportedly engaged in a dispute at the time.
Suppression Order and Sentencing
The identity of the former professional sportsman has been temporarily suppressed until sentencing submissions, scheduled for next month. This suppression is intended to prevent the identification of family members. The defense team has indicated they anticipate seeking an extension of the current interim suppression order at the upcoming sentencing hearing.
The Adelaide man is scheduled to return to court in July for the sentencing submissions.
