Jessica Carter Dawson shares a poignant tribute following the tragic death of her husband, Jaryd Dawson, brother of AFL star Jordan Dawson, at age 35. The emotional post features the last photo she captured of Jaryd holding their infant son, Hudson, born in September.
Desperate Search Ends in Tragedy
Emergency services discovered Jaryd near his hometown of Robe, 300km south of Adelaide, on Wednesday afternoon. He had gone missing around 2:30pm Tuesday, prompting urgent appeals from family members. Jessica posted on social media Thursday morning: ‘The last photo I took of my boys, just two days prior. I was feeling so incredibly rich in life. Now my heart is shattered into a million pieces. Huddy and I will love you and miss you forever and ever and ever.’
Prior pleas for information read: ‘If anyone has heard from Jaryd since around 2:30pm yesterday please please let us know.’ South Australia Police confirm no suspicious circumstances surround the death. Authorities located his car and phone at Beacon Hill Lookout near Robe before confirming the tragedy.
Jaryd’s Life and Legacy
The couple married in late 2024 and welcomed Hudson months later. Jaryd co-founded Domus Design & Build, a construction firm in Robe, and excelled in local football as vice-captain of the Robe Roosters reserve-grade team. He earned a call-up to A Grade for the 2025 Mid South Eastern Football League grand final.
The loss devastates Robe and the football community. A friend describes him as ‘heavily involved in the local football club … you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who had not met him or had some connection to him. He was extremely well-known in the area and well-liked by everyone. Not one person had anything bad to say about him.’
Impact on AFL Star Jordan
The Adelaide Crows informed players of the disappearance Wednesday morning. Jordan faces St Kilda Saturday night at Adelaide Oval, with his participation uncertain. He honors family through a tattoo above his ankle featuring birthdays in Roman numerals for Jaryd, parents Marian and Tony, and sister Chloe. Jordan explains: ‘I was with a mate, he was getting a tattoo and I thought it’d be nice to get.’
