LIV Golf Confirms Operations Continue Amid Shutdown Rumors

Published on

LIV Golf plans to proceed with its schedule uninterrupted, despite recent speculation about a potential shutdown. The Saudi-backed league faced uncertainty earlier this week, prompting concerns among players and staff about its future.

Emergency Meeting Addresses Collapse Fears

Executives convened an urgent summit in New York as rumors intensified. Agents expressed confusion over the status of the tour, which has received nearly $6 billion in funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund since 2022. However, insiders confirm that operations and funding remain on track.

A high-ranking source states that the league is performing strongly, tracking $100 million ahead after the first five events this season. Sponsorships and partnerships have risen 40 percent year-over-year, ticket sales surged 129 percent, and retail merchandising increased 26 percent.

CEO Reassures Employees

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil recently emailed staff to affirm stability. “I want to be crystal clear: Our season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle,” the message reads. O’Neil emphasized resilience, noting, “The life of a startup movement is often defined by these moments of pressure. We have faced headwinds since the jump, and we’ve answered every time with resilience and grace.”

The email highlights the league’s momentum heading into the core of its 2026 schedule, positioning it as a disruptive force in golf.

Mexico City Event Proceeds

Business continues as usual, with Thursday’s tournament in Mexico City set to start at 1:15 p.m. local time. LIV Golf’s official account dismissed speculation, posting a preview and declaring, “Slow news day? We are ON. #LongLIVGolf.”

Senior leadership and executives are now in Mexico preparing for the event, signaling normal operations.

Background on LIV Golf’s Impact

Launched in 2021, LIV Golf disrupted professional golf by challenging the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. It drew stars like Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, and Tyrrell Hatton, creating divisions in the sport.

Sanctions from the PGA and DP World Tours sidelined defectors like Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, and Lee Westwood from events such as the Ryder Cup. Recently, Brooks Koepka returned to the PGA Tour, and Patrick Reed competes on the DP World Tour aiming for a PGA comeback.

While long-term prospects remain uncertain, current indicators point to stability for the breakaway league.
