Joseph Duggar, 31, received reassurance from his wife Kendra during a jail call last week amid serious molestation charges stemming from a 2020 incident in Florida. Kendra, 27, shared that the family feels disappointment yet maintains their love for him.
The Jailhouse Conversation
In the audio from the call at Washington County Jail in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kendra told Joseph, “Just know that everybody loves you – even if they’re disappointed.” Joseph replied, “Oh, I understand – I understand the disappointment.”
Kendra emphasized their faith, stating, “God is gonna get us through this one day at a time.” She also expressed missing him at home with their four children, saying, “Every time I look up the staircase I melt into a puddle, so we’ve decided to take it one day at a time, one moment at a time … hopefully, you can do that, too.” Joseph responded positively, noting he felt the love and was not upset.
Details of the Allegations
Court documents detail that a now-14-year-old girl reported multiple incidents of sexual abuse during a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020, when she was nine. She described sitting on Joseph’s lap as he cradled her, later moving to the couch where he covered them with a blanket, pulled up her dress, touched her thighs, and grazed her vagina over her underwear several times, leaving her confused and uncomfortable.
The girl stated Joseph later apologized, and the incidents stopped. Investigators arranged a call where Joseph admitted touching her over her clothing and acknowledged impure intentions, leading to an arrest warrant from Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
At the time, Joseph and Kendra had two children, with a third on the way.
Legal Developments and Charges
Joseph posted $600,000 bond and returned to Arkansas. Judge Brantley Clark barred him from unsupervised contact with minors under 18. He entered a not guilty plea, waived arraignment, and requested a jury trial, with a court date set for April 20.
His attorney, Albert Sauline, affirmed the team’s focus on ensuring fair treatment. A new mugshot showed Joseph smirking.
Both Joseph and Kendra face four counts each of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree false imprisonment in Tontitown, Arkansas—charges unrelated to the Florida case. Kendra was released on bond shortly after booking.
Family Responses
Brother Josh Duggar, serving a 12-year sentence for child pornography possession, expressed understanding of accusations’ impact through his attorney: “He lives with the painful reality of how false accusations can destroy a life.”
Sister Jill Duggar Dillard and husband Derick posted on their blog: “We were shocked … to learn of Joseph’s arrest.” They condemned abuse, supported justice, and prayed for the victim, her family, Kendra, and their children.
Cousin Amy Duggar voiced shock and anger: “I am sickened, heartbroken and deeply angry.” She prioritized the victim’s courage, criticized family patterns, and prayed for all involved, including justice.
