Princess of Wales Wears Meaningful Blue Ensemble During Hospital Visit

Following a recent engagement at the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research UK alongside King Charles, the Princess of Wales made another significant appearance at The Christie in Manchester. This renowned institution, established in 1890 and integrated into the NHS in 1948, stands as Europe’s largest cancer center, serving over 60,000 patients annually. During her visit, the Princess observed a patient marking the conclusion of their treatment by ringing a bell. Her itinerary also included visits to an art therapy room and a wellbeing garden, concluding at the Teenage and Young Adult Ward.

Fashion as a Statement of Support

Demonstrating solidarity with the NHS, which utilizes a blue and white color scheme, the Princess opted to re-wear a favored blue coat dress from the Eponine brand. The garment features padded shoulders, a V-neckline, a buttoned waist, and a midi skirt. Her accessories were kept simple, including her sapphire engagement ring, bee earrings, and nude Gianvito Rossi heels. Her signature brunette hair was styled in elegant Hollywood curls that flowed past her shoulders.

The Psychology of Color Choice

According to royal fashion expert and style coach Shauna Colaci, the choice of blue for the Princess’s attire may carry deeper significance. “In color psychology, blue symbolizes trust, loyalty, and calm authority. It’s the color of diplomacy – quietly powerful, universally flattering, and emotionally steadying,” Colaci explained. This choice aligns with the Princess’s continued efforts to promote a message of calm and reassurance.

Sustainable Style and Wardrobe Longevity

The Princess’s commitment to sustainable fashion was evident as she chose to re-wear an item from her existing wardrobe, first acquired in 2021. This particular coat, from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, was initially debuted during the United Nations COP26 climate change summit. Stylist Susie Hasler noted the royal’s skillful approach to re-styling outfits with different accessories. “When she chooses something custom-made, it’s often in a neutral shade – usually something like blue or navy – which makes it much easier to re-wear in different ways over time. These types of pieces are always created with longevity in mind,” Hasler commented.

Personal Connection to Cancer Care

The Princess of Wales received a diagnosis of an undisclosed form of cancer in 2024, following abdominal surgery. She subsequently underwent chemotherapy, completing the treatment by September of that year. At the time of her announcement, she stated she was “cancer-free,” and later confirmed she was in remission in January 2025. During a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she received treatment, the Princess conveyed empathy towards cancer patients, drawing from her own experiences. Speaking with a patient undergoing chemotherapy, she acknowledged, “It’s really tough,” and encouraged a positive outlook. In a subsequent statement, she expressed profound gratitude: “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”
