Former NBA star Patrick Beverley will not face assault charges following allegations that he choked and punched his younger sister. A grand jury in Fort Bend County, Texas, determined insufficient evidence exists to proceed against the ex-Houston Rockets, LA Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks player.

Grand Jury No-Bill

Beverley’s attorneys, Rusty Hardin and Letitia Quinones-Hollins, stated: ‘Patrick wants everyone to know that he would never do anything to harm his sister and that he is very grateful that the grand jury has recognized that with their no-bill. He is thankful for all who prayed for him and supported him during this time. He is glad that the process was allowed to work as it did and his hope is that with these charges behind him now, his name and reputation will be restored.’

Details of the November Incident

The altercation unfolded in November when Beverley’s minor sister left the family home in Richmond, Texas, overnight without permission to meet her boyfriend. Upon her return, her mother, Lisa, confronted her and instructed her to call the boyfriend, identified as Aiden Hilderbrand, to pick her up.

Lisa invited Hilderbrand inside and led him to her daughter’s bedroom. She then called Beverley to the house and directed him to the bedroom. Police reports indicate Beverley yelled at his sister, questioning what was wrong with her, before grabbing her neck and lifting her off the ground.

The sister reported feeling pain and struggling to breathe as Beverley allegedly squeezed her neck for 20 to 30 seconds. He then pulled her from the room while still holding her neck and slammed her against walls. She attempted to free herself by grabbing his wrists.

Beverley reportedly placed her on a sofa, stood over her, and punched her left eye once with a closed fist. He also allegedly warned her, ‘he will be the family relative to kill her.’

During the incident, Lisa remained in her room and told Hilderbrand to leave, which he did. Beverley followed him out briefly before returning to inform his mother and sister that Hilderbrand had contacted police.

Officers arrived, observed neck marks and blood spots under the skin near her eye, and arrested Beverley. Authorities charged him with assault on a family member by impeding breath or circulation.

Beverley’s Post-NBA Career

Since departing the NBA in 2024 after a contentious exit from the Milwaukee Bucks, Beverley played in the Israeli Basketball Premier League with Hapoel Tel Aviv. The team suspended him for mocking coach Dimitris Itoudis on social media following a benching in a February championship loss. He later parted ways with Hapoel by mutual consent.

Beverley also faced a lawsuit from two women stemming from a courtside confrontation near the end of his Bucks tenure. After a playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers, he threw a ball toward fans, striking a woman in the head. He responded: ‘I have to be better, and I will be better. That should have never happened. Regardless of what was said, that should have never happened. Simple as that.’

The NBA handed him a four-game suspension for the incident, which remains unserved after his departure from Milwaukee.
