Golf Superstar Faces Allegations of Inappropriate Contact
American golf icon Phil Mickelson has reportedly been removed as a member of a San Diego golf club following accusations of inappropriate physical contact made by a female employee. The incident, which allegedly occurred earlier this spring at The Farms Golf Club, involves the six-time major winner, who is 55 years old.
Reports indicate that Mickelson approached the employee and engaged in what is described as ‘nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact.’ The woman reportedly rejected his advances.
Confrontation and Removal from Club
Following the alleged incident, Mickelson was reportedly located on the course midway through a round and confronted about the claims. He was subsequently instructed to leave the premises.
A spokesperson for Mickelson, who previously announced an indefinite hiatus from golf in February to address a personal family health matter, characterized the event as a ‘misunderstanding.’ The spokesperson further stated, “Any misunderstanding has been cleared up. Phil continues to attend to a family health matter and is uncertain when he will be able to return to professional golf.””
Club’s Response to Allegations
The Farms Golf Club issued a statement regarding the matter, confirming their actions. “Following a staff member report of member misconduct, the Club provided immediate and ongoing support to the staff member, conducted a thorough independent investigation of the incident and took decisive action. This individual is no longer a member of The Farms Golf Club,” the club stated.
Mickelson, married with three children, is approaching his 56th birthday.
