A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a brutal alleged assault that resulted in the near-complete amputation of a 17-year-old’s hand in Sydney, Australia. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, September 2, in the inner-city suburb of Redfern.

According to New South Wales Police, the alleged attack took place around 6 p.m. in a car park in Redfern. Emergency services were subsequently dispatched to an oval on Redfern Street following reports of a welfare concern. Upon arrival, police officers discovered a 17-year-old male and his severed hand on the grass.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance provided immediate medical attention, stabilising the injured teenager at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital. He was reported to be in a stable condition. As of the following morning, the 17-year-old remained in stable condition. The possibility of surgical reattachment of the hand was not immediately clear.

During the court appearance, Judge Keisha Hopgood addressed the defendant, stating, “It’s a serious children’s offence.” No application for bail was made on his behalf.
