Trump Calls Secret Service Takedown of Armed Shooter ‘Beautiful’

Published on

President Trump described the Secret Service’s rapid response to an armed intruder at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as “in one way, very beautiful, a very beautiful thing.”

Shooting at Washington Hilton

The incident unfolded Saturday night at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the dinner took place. An individual charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, including guns and knives. He fired at a Secret Service agent, but the officer’s bulletproof vest prevented serious injury.

Suspect in Custody

Authorities identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California. Hotel records indicate he was a guest. Allen faces charges of assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon and remains in custody. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed additional charges related to the attack will follow soon.

Trump’s Remarks

During a press conference, Trump recounted the event: “I saw a room that was just totally unified. It was, in one way, very beautiful, a very beautiful thing. To see a man charge a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service, and they acted very quickly.”

Trump also labeled the assailant a “lone wolf whack job” in a Truth Social post that included a photo of the suspect. He commended the Secret Service, noting the gunman never neared the ballroom stage.

Investigation Updates

No motive has surfaced yet. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser stated she has no reason to suspect additional involvement. Officials continue to probe the attack.
