Americans Injured in Iranian Missile Strike on Kuwaiti Air Base
Several American personnel sustained minor injuries following an Iranian ballistic missile strike targeting the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait. The incident, which occurred recently, saw five individuals, including contractors and active duty service members, treated for non-life-threatening wounds. The precise nature of the injuries has not been detailed, but they are described as minor.
Reports indicate that Kuwaiti air defense systems engaged the incoming missile. While the primary threat was reportedly intercepted, fragments of the projectile still impacted the base. The attack is understood to have involved a Fateh-110 missile, a short-range ballistic weapon. Analysis suggests that two MQ-9 Reaper strike drones were deployed in response to the missile threat. The engagement resulted in the destruction of one drone and significant damage to a second.
The Ali Al Salem air base, often referred to as ‘The Rock’ due to its elevated position in the desert landscape, is situated approximately 39 miles from the Iraqi border. This facility serves as a crucial operational hub for military activities in the region.
In response to the escalating regional tensions, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has stated that American troops are on standby and preparing to ‘recommence if necessary.’ This declaration suggests a readiness to engage further military action should the situation demand it.
The deployment of the Fateh-110 missile and the subsequent engagement highlight the ongoing military activities in the broader conflict. The cost of the MQ-9 Reaper drones involved in the defense is estimated to be around $30 million each.
