A young man in his 20s was fatally stabbed in broad daylight on Monday afternoon in Hackney Downs Park, east London. The attack occurred around 1:45 PM near a school, prompting shock and concern among local residents and parents.

Victim Described as a ‘Family Man’

Friends of the victim, who has not been publicly named, described him as a “chilled guy” and a “good family man.” One friend, who visited the crime scene, expressed bewilderment at the incident, stating, “He was just a chill dude, a very nice person.” The friend recalled the victim’s kindness from their youth, mentioning instances where he would assist elderly neighbors with their shopping.

The victim was reportedly on his way to a shop when he was ambushed. “He had a job working nights, and I’ve been told he was going to the shop on his own when he was attacked. This just doesn’t add up,” a friend told reporters. “He is a family person, great with his mum and brother. I’m absolutely shocked and upset. It’s scary out there.”

The stabbing took place in Hackney Downs Park, a popular public space adjacent to Mossbourne Community Academy and overlooking a school for pupils with special needs. Parents expressed “absolute horror” at the lunchtime attack, noting that children often walk through the park on their way home from school.

Although the school had broken up for summer holidays at the time of the incident, parents voiced worries about park safety. One parent observed a change in the park’s atmosphere during hot weather, noting the presence of “big groups of young men being quite intimidating.” Another parent stated, “My children use the park all the time. It’s heartbreaking someone has died and it’s very worrying for us.” The lack of an immediate arrest heightened these anxieties, with residents concerned that the perpetrator remains at large.
