Hero’s Family Engulfed in Bitter Dispute
Relatives of Ahmed Al Ahmed, the hero who tackled a gunman at Bondi Beach, are reportedly in deep shock as a severe family dispute escalates, marked by allegations of extortion, intimidation, and assault. What began as a heartwarming reunion for Al Ahmed with family who traveled from across the globe to support him during his recovery has reportedly devolved into a deeply acrimonious conflict.
Central to the alleged fallout is the substantial sum of approximately $2.6 million raised through global donations following the courageous act. Al Ahmed claims that certain family members are demanding a portion of these funds. However, these relatives present a starkly different narrative, suggesting that newfound fame has altered Al Ahmed’s perspective and that any discussion of a dispute is significantly exaggerated.
Allegations Surface in Court and Media
Sources close to the family have expressed astonishment that the situation has led to legal proceedings. “Ahmed’s siblings and parents are completely shocked that it has ended up in court,” a family insider stated. “They love Ahmed and want everything to be sorted out and are upset he is going to the police and media accusing them of this. This is all a misunderstanding and they believe it’s going to be cleared up in no time and are putting their faith in the justice system.”
This week, Al Ahmed himself faces charges of assault and stalking, stemming from an alleged incident in March where he is accused of placing his elderly father in a headlock at the family home. Al Ahmed has vehemently denied these allegations, breaking down in tears during a live radio interview on Friday while asserting that family members have been attempting to extort him out of the GoFundMe money.
Financial Disputes and Threats Alleged
The dispute, according to Al Ahmed, intensified in February over the funds raised for his recovery. He alleges harassment and abuse from family members pressuring him for money before their departure from Australia, as he had apparently sponsored their visas. Specifically, Al Ahmed claims both his brothers demanded $100,000 each, while his father allegedly requested half of the total GoFundMe proceeds.
Additional reports suggest that Al Ahmed’s brothers, Sameh Al Ahmed and Hozifa Al Ahmed, arrived in Australia on three-month visas but later refused to leave. The relationship with his father reportedly soured after Al Ahmed reported the alleged extortion attempts to the police. He claims his father became enraged and, through other family members, pressured him to withdraw the complaint.
“He started sending messages with my sister, and he [said] either withdraw the case against the brother, or he will go against me,” Al Ahmed recounted during the radio interview.
Family Denies Allegations, Awaits Court Decision
Conversely, the family source maintains that the siblings are in Australia on a 12-month visitor visa and have no immediate plans to depart. “They will go to court to defend these accusations in July because they are not guilty of them and then everyone will know the truth,” the source commented. “To be found guilty, you need some proof and Ahmed has none of that for what he is saying.”
The situation took a dramatic turn in May, according to police allegations, when the relationship between Al Ahmed and his brothers completely broke down, leading him to move out of their shared Bankstown residence. Subsequently, Hozifa allegedly contacted Al Ahmed with threats of physical violence and demands for money, followed by similar alleged threats from Sameh.
Police have charged Hozifa and Sameh with using a carriage service to harass or offend and have applied for an apprehended violence order on Al Ahmed’s behalf. Both brothers have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Al Ahmed is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on July 29 regarding the incident with his father.
