London commuters face widespread disruption on Thursday as a 24-hour strike is set to cripple the city’s Underground network. The industrial action, scheduled to last from 00:01 to 23:59 BST, follows similar stoppages earlier in the week.
Extensive Service Cancellations Expected
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that the entire Tube network will be significantly impacted. While some lines may operate a reduced service, severe disruptions are anticipated across all Underground services.
Specific Line Impacts:
Travellers are advised of the following expected service issues:
- No service is anticipated on the Circle line.
- The Piccadilly line is expected to see no service.
- The Metropolitan line will have no service between Baker Street and Aldgate.
- The Central line will experience no service between White City and Liverpool Street.
Worker Concerns Cited
A spokesperson for the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) stated that members have voiced significant concerns. These include issues related to fatigue, extended working hours, diminished flexibility, and the potential safety implications of proposed changes in a safety-critical environment.
Alternative Transport and Advice
TfL has cautioned that while other transport services, including the Elizabeth line, DLR, London Overground, buses, and trams, are expected to run as normal, these services are likely to be exceptionally busy due to the Tube strike. Passengers are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for extra travel time.
